You can check out my piece <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/ccf\/2018\/05\/15\/keeping-dependents-dependent\/\">here<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Excerpt from <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/ccf\/2018\/05\/15\/keeping-dependents-dependent\/\">&#8220;Keeping &#8216;Dependents&#8217; Dependent&#8221;<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;On April 24, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/h4-ead-uscis-chief-confirms-its-end-of-the-road-for-h4-work-permits-tighter-rules-on-h1b-payscales-coming-soon-4443247.html\">rang the death knell<\/a> on work authorization for spouses of high-skilled immigrant workers. Under the direction of the White House, the USCIS conducted an audit of the H-1B guest worker program, specifically to see if it complies with the President\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/legal-resources\/buy-american-hire-american-putting-american-workers-first\">Buy American, Hire American<\/a> executive order. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/2018-04-04%20USCIS%20to%20CEG%20-%20Buy%20America%2C%20Hire%20America%20update.pdf\">report<\/a> submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the director of the USCIS proposed sweeping changes to the program, including removing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/working-united-states\/temporary-workers\/employment-authorization-certain-h-4-dependent-spouses\">regulations<\/a> that would allow the spouses of H-1B workers to obtain work permits.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Despite being an established program for almost thirty years, the H-1B program has become a target for the current administration. The H-1B visa program first came into existence after the passage of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/101st-congress\/senate-bill\/358\"><u>1990 Immigration Act. <\/u><\/a>\u00a0As the tech boom of the 1990s and rising fears about \u201cY2K\u201d created a demand for technically-trained labor, U.S. companies began to seek workers from around the world.\u00a0 The H-1B is given to workers in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/working-united-states\/temporary-workers\/h-1b-specialty-occupations-dod-cooperative-research-and-development-project-workers-and-fashion-models\">specialized and complex<\/a>\u201d jobs.
